According to Variety, The “American Gigolo” series adaptation has been ordered to series.
The project was ordered to pilot at Showtime in March 2020 after having been in development at the premium cabler since 2016.
Bernthal will play Julian Kaye, the character played by Richard Gere in the film. Julian is introduced 15 years after he’s been arrested for murder and struggling to find his footing in the modern-day Los Angeles sex industry. He seeks the truth about the set-up that sent him to prison all those years ago and also hoping to reconnect with Michelle (Gretchen Mol), his one true love.
The series will also star Rosie O’Donnell as homicide Detective Sunday, Lizzie Brocheré as sex work ring heiress Isabelle, Gabriel LaBelle as a younger version of Julian named Johnny, Leland Orser as Richard Stratton, a self-made tech billionaire, and guest star Wayne Brady as Lorenzo, Julian’s best friend and mentor.
Jon Bernthal, Josh Charles, and Jamie Hector are set for three of the lead roles in the HBO limited series “We Own This City” from the team behind “The Wire.”
Based on the book of the same name by Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton, “We Own This City” is a six-hour limited series chronicling the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force — and the corruption and moral collapse that befell an American city in which the policies of drug prohibition and mass arrest were championed at the expense of actual police work.
Bernthal will star as Sgt. Wayne Jenkins of the Baltimore Police Department, perhaps the central figure in the sprawling federal corruption case that centered on the agency’s Gun Trace Task Force. The plainclothes unit went completely rogue and began hunting and robbing citizens and drug dealers alike as decades of a relentless drug war and mass incarceration in Baltimore spun wildly out of control.

Universal set the “Viena and the Fantomes” digital release date. The movie will be available on-demand and on digital platforms on June 30th, and there’s a new trailer to watch that teases the all-star cast.
“Viena, a beautiful, young roadie, travels with the Fantomes, an edgy post-punk band, as they tour through America in the 1980s. What starts out as a wild ride of concerts and parties quickly descends into an alcohol and drug induced haze. Viena finds herself trapped in a dangerous love triangle between a good natured roadie and an unbalanced band member, as she is forced to find her own means of survival-no matter the cost.”

Deadline — FX Networks has given a pilot green light to Platform, a half-hour anthology pilot, written, directed and executive produced by B.J. Novak (The Office).
Platform, which starts filming today, is an anthological series that uses the boldest issues of our times as a jumping-off point to tell singular, character-driven stories about the world we live in today.
I hear the plan is to film two episodes, which are very different in tone — one is said to be more dramatic, tackling a tough subject, and the other more comedic, with a small animation element.
DEADLINE — Signature Entertainment has picked up UK rights to SXSW Audience Award winner The Peanut Butter Falcon, starring Shia LaBeouf, Dakota Johnson and newcomer Zack Gottsagen.
LaBeouf plays as a small time outlaw turned unlikely coach who joins forces with Zak, a young man with Down syndrome on the run from a nursing home and hoping to fulfill his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. Johnson plays Zak’s carer.
Also starring are Jon Bernthal, Thomas Hayden Church, Bruce Dern and John Hawkes. Writer-director duo Tyler Nilson and Michael Shwartz set the film up specifically for Gottsagen, who has Down syndrome, after they met him at a camp for disabled actors.
